Meeru - MALDIVES (November 2003)

The best offer we have ever found was this trip to Maldives. We saw in a newspaper and it took only a few days in reserve. The wholesaler was Kuoni, the offer was available in all travel agencies. The price was € 690 per person, destination, Meeru (Maldives), half board. The trip was conducted in November 2003.

The arrival at Male airport was very impressed. After seeing some very nice islands from the air, land not be seen when landing at the airport. The airport is very small and gives out a pier also does duty. We made the visa formalities and headed to the counter which operated the trip. After an hour's boat ride, we arrived at the island of Meeru. Our room was simple, with a book in a bed townhouses with 2 inputs. Overall the hotel was quite simple but very nice. There were very good looking bungalows and only 2 overwater in a place that barely covered the water. The room was very quiet, because most foreigners left in the pool and left the beach for a few Spanish who were there.

The beach was wonderful. The water was very clear and warm, very fine white sand, shells and shells had all sorts of colors and shapes. In half an hour she turned to the island on foot. Everything was always quiet, secluded beach and the sun scorched if you were in the water. We spent hours snorkeling in a small artificial reef which is reached from the shore. Despite being a small space, there was much variety of fish and was very entertaining. Occasionally a shark passed tiny, about 30cm. By then we intimidated, especially when we saw a triggerfish (Picasso) cut in half by a small shark bite. We did not want to end each day, enjoying every hour of paradise.

We made several excursions. A full day with stops at several islands, a local fisherman, in which we check the isolation of these remote islands. Horrified at a house we saw a child strapped to a table playing like a monkey. The next stop was on a desert island for snorkeling and lunch. This was where the fish bite by mistake a mole of Diana and left it hanging and bleeding. Later we went through Paradise Island, a super luxury hotel full of Japanese. We ended the day shopping on an island, where local artisans sell wood items, sarongs, baskets and a lot of memories. We buy a lot of things, because they were original and cheap. Another trip was to 2 reefs in the sea, round, just one meter underwater in the shallow end. It was an exhausting trip, as the pace of the group was high. With us was a kid Maldives plunged more than 10 meters to the lung to teach lobsters, moray eels and stuff. The beauty of what we saw is stuck forever in our memory. As we were leaving on a daily excursion boat from the hotel to local reef full of colorful banks sergeants and all kinds of fish. Whenever we were apart of the group to go quietly, but the last 2 days we found a respectable size sharks (about 2 meters) and had a bad up to the boat.

It was a very intense trip, we made short. We did a small group of friends, some thugs with one of the partners, which teased heavy type hotel alarm clock at 5 am. Had a great time and enjoy the paradise that is Maldives. We hope to return someday, but this time as the final route when we go to Sri Lanka.
