TRAVEL GUIDE TO THAILAND (RUTA NORTE)

PROLOGUE

The travel guide that follows is a compilation of data prior to making a trip to Thailand and update them once the trip. We provide this information as an example of how to organize a trip for free with information that can be found on the Internet. 1. STUDY OF POSSIBLE ROUTE

The route I propose is to Bangkok and stay about 4 days. From here a route for six days by visiting northern Kanchanabury, Ayuthaya, Lopbury, Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, Phrae, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son (to rule out anything, Chiang Rai), and ending with 4 days in area beach. This makes about 14 days. There are many possible routes, depending on the preferences of each (beach, temples, shopping ....). This is one of many.

The northern route is recommended to go by train / bus to go by standing on the road and see everything, but to catch a plane back to Chiang Mai to BKK that goes for 20 (Air Asia) and from there to the beach. Otherwise you will lose two days' journey. But before leaving Spain a tip, call approx 1 week before and ask the company from that day you can reserve the seats you want on the phone. BANGKOK

NORTH ROAD

BEACH

2. BANGKOK

Transportation in Bangkok

3. NORTH ROUTE

1 .- To go to Ayutthaya (near Bangkok) it is best to go on your own on the train (train station Hualampong) or air-conditioned bus (station in KHAMPHAENGPHET II MEEHIT NEW ROAD). The journey takes approximately 1:40 pm in Bangkok by train. A train leaves daily every hour from 6:40 h to 22:00 h). You can also hire a tour at any hotel (walk for 30-40 euros, surely include Bang Pa In) or even hire a taxi in Bkk for 1500-2000 baht (30-35 ) and you see it at your leisure. Ayutthaya can be seen in half a day if you arrive early. After eating in the city again recommend taking the bus / train to LOPBURY (City of the Apes) and spend the night there. On the way to Lopbury can make a stop in Saraburi to visit the pagoda of Phra PUDDHABAT, very nice, where in theory a footprint of Buddha (if you're on the same bus can not stop).

In Lopbury is recommended to visit the Temple of the Apes and the 3 Pagodas, and Prang Sam Yot. The distance from Bkk to Ayutthaya is 88km and from there to Lopbury 60Km.

2.-Another possibility is instead of sleeping in Lopbury, continue to Phitsanulok, and sleep there. 3 .- From here you must go to Sukhothai and visit the ruins of the city. Looks like you have a set of 45 temples World Heritage Site. Very nice. The next trip is to Lampang. At this point we must consider whether you want to hit a train from Lopbury palizón and sleep on the train to Sukhothai, or return to Bangkok and catch a flight to Sukhothai (will cost around 35 in Bangkok).

You can hire a trekking with a local agency or trips in the region to see the tribes. 5 .- CHIANG MAI should go by plane to MAE HONG SON, a region still largely untouched by tourism, is beautiful and the town is small, but very nice. 5. BEACHES

For the trip to Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, the southern islands with the time available, take the plane without hesitation (even probably have to stop over in BKK anyway). By land you can take more than 2 days ...

To get to Koh Chang from Chiang Rai, with the time you have, you should take the plane back to BKK (Air Asia operates this route so it should not cost you very expensive) and then take another to Trat (Bangkok Air) . Once in Trat, bus or taxi to the port of Laem Ngop (according to the guide 20 min) where you take a ferry to Koh Chang (every 2 hours, duration 1 hour according to the guide.)

It seems a little complicated but it is probably the quickest and easiest way to get from Chiang Rai to Koh Chang.

Obviously it is much easier to go to Phuket, Krabi or Samui where airports themselves but also for that reason, you can find many more people. Koh Samui and also recommend if you can visit the Phi-Phi are spectacular (perhaps overly exploited), but they are beautiful.

North of Phuket is located in Phang Nga National Park with the famous rock of James Bond, you can make a day trip departing from Laem Sai pier. 6. SHOPPING

The best markets in Bangkok are:

- In Chatuchak Market (weekend-closing time: approx. 6 pm.) -SILOM ROAD, el mercadillo es de noche, donde encontrarás en mi opinión las mejores imitaciones de relojes de lujo. Todo lo demás (hay cientos de puestos) es más barato y mejor comprarlo en Chatuchak. Para bolsos y relojes recomiendan una tienda. En esta calle esta el Silom Village Trade Center (los precios no están tan ajustados pero en cambio yo creo que ofrece algo más de exclusividad (hay tallas de madera que no encontré en otros sitios).

En este centro destacan:

MAY7:un pequeño centro comercial en la calle Silom. Está en la planta de abajo, al fondo a la izquierda. Les dices que quieres ver relojes y bolsos y te llevan a la trastienda para enseñártelos. Cuando empiecen la negociación, les puedes decir que quien te los recomendó saca los relojes por 1500 Bath, esto ahorrará negociaciones porque son duros, empiezan a unos 3000 bath por reloj y no bajan ni a tiros. Si eso no es suficiente, les dices que en MBK te los dejan a 1400 y con la misma calidad. Si pagas con tarjeta te cobran un 3% más (esto es una práctica habitual en Tailandia). Este sitio es famosillo por lo que lo que se pueden vsubir a la parra con los precios. Buenas imitaciones pero caro, por lo que lo recomiendan así así. Dicen que al lado hay una tienda de tallas muy chulas y otra de relojes-bolsos.

BAAN TON MAI.F , con figures de Madera y bronce e imitaciones relojes, bolsos, etc.

Nota; Si compras imágenes de buda más o menos grandes, pedir en la tienda factura y una pequeña nota en donde ponga que no es una pieza antigua, sino una reproducción. Puede salvarte de algún problema en la aduana. En esta calle también hay muchos puestos de masajes (200b de pies y 300 thailandés)

- Indra center (junto bayote sky)

Otro centro comercial cerca de Bayoke sky en Bangkok. Es un centro comercial con aire acondicionado (viene bien ese descanso) donde principalmente venden ropa al por mayor, pero te venden sin problema una o dos piezas, precios muy bajos, por lo que casi no se regatea, y tampoco te puedes probar nada.

- Suan Lum Night Bazaar (abierto todos los días de 7-12.)

Desde Khao San Road en taxi son con meter 65 bahts. Para mí es uno de los mejores mercadillos, primero porque es mas nuevo y no todos los turistas lo conocen. Además es bastante grande y entre los puestos tiene una zona enorme para "tapear" y tomar algo con un escenario enorme donde hacen actuaciones musicales. Para ir lo mejor es el metro, la parada era lumpini park, justo salias de la boca de metro y en frente estaba suan lum park, no tiene pérdida, pero cualquier taxi o tuck-tuck diciendo donde quieres ir te lleva sin problemas. Abren a partir de las 19:00 así que mejor ve temprano. Y encontrar vas a encontrar de todo, relojes, ropa, zapatos, bolsos, decoración.. Artesanía, plata, mimbre.

- Patpong. (De 6 pm. a 12 de la noche) Este es de los más famosos y está frente al hotel Montien. Es el más típico pero como va tanto turista a verlo, los vendedores son muy agresivos y los precios no son los mejores. Además tienen peores imitaciones y más caras. Dentro de este mercadillo hay una calle con bares

de pilinguis y tal. Es alucinante, es una calle muy larga llena de todo y es muy curioso porque estas comprando con las putillas y los travestis metiéndote mano. (Nada recomendado)

- Khao San Road: mucho colorido. Mochilas Low Alpine (buena imitación). Esta es la calle donde están los hostales baratos

Los mejores mercadillos en CHIANG MAI:

Si estáis por la noche no dejéis de visitar el bazar nocturno, bolsos, camisetas (lacoste, polo, custo), polos, zapatillas, artesanía madera, marionetas, seda, figuras de teca, fundas cojines, máscaras, sombreros tai (100B)....cierra sobre las 11h. Lo mejor es pasarse a primera hora, las cinco o así, cuando abren los puestos y te harán mas descuentos. Para comprar plata Lanna Silver (centro comercial en la calle del Mercado Nocturno). Está en un pequeño centro comercial que hay subiendo unas anchas escaleras. La chica de esa tienda de plata es muy simpática y se enrolla un montón. Puede bajar el precio marcado hasta un 60 %. También se dice que es para turistas y que si queréis comprar artesanía buena y barata, seda, etc hacedlo durante el día en el mercado de WAROROT, zona de chinos, material en abundancia y no os la meterán como en el bazar nocturno. En cuanto a los relojes, a lo largo del bazar veréis puestos con relojes guarrillos, haceos los interesados y enseguida el perla de turno os dirá si queréis rolex, breitling, etc si le decís que si os llevaran a una tienda donde entrareis y cerraran detrás y os enseñarán miles de copias, la verdad que algunas mas curradas que otras, pero son bien chulos, sobretodo los breitling. Pero los buenos, por mas que lo intentes no bajarán de 1000 bats,(20 euros). Ellos empezaran por 4000, 5000 o 6000 bats, pero bajara hasta los 1000 y pico pero no conseguirás bajarlos de ahí incluso marchándose de la tienda.

Una de las cosas que merece la pena de chiang mai en el bazar es en la planta baja del galarie shopping center donde hay un grupo de artistas locales que pintan retratos impresionantes. Los de la Rambla de Barcelona al lado de estos son unos pardillos, si queréis hacer algún regalo bonito os aconsejo que llevéis alguna foto de algún familiar o amigo y os harán un retrato en blanco y negro que se os caerá el alma a los pies, chapo por esta gente. Vale la pena de verdad.

En Chiang Mai, para comprar antigüedades, buscar la calle Tae Pae.

Para comprar gemas, Gems Gallery(tlfno (053)339-307-10). Tienda de Gemas:

También hay que comprar Bálsamo de Tigre: para catarros, golpes, picaduras de mosquito, dolores de cabeza (en puestos en la calle).

Una cosa, para las deportivas era curioso porque son muy pequeñas al menos DEBEIS PEDIR 2 TALLAS MAS DE LAS QUE CALZAIS, sobre todo probároslas. Y con los tejanos lo mismo que por cierto el probárselos es complicado. Con el tema de los relojes (ahora mas controlado que antes) no los compres en los tenderetes que son una porquería sino los que se venden de forma clandestina en trastiendas. Te pueden llegar a pedir de primeras unos 45.000 baths (900 euros) y luego te dicen que cuanto les ofreces. No le ofrezcas mas de 1500 baths (30 euros).

Antes el mejor sitio para comprar los Rolex era el Patpong, pero ahora debido a la masiva afluencia de los turistas son menos amables y se esfuerzan menos en rebajarte los precios, porque siempre habrá alguno que pique con precios más altos. Ahora es mejor comprarlos en la avenida de la que sale el Patpong, es decir, Silom Road, los puestos que están antes de llegar al mercado, suelen ser mucho más amables y acostumbran a rebajar más los precios.

El mejor sitio para comprar relojes en Bangkok es el Niki´s (no sé su dirección) o en Chiang Mai. Los más logrados en Niki´s son los Breitling, los Rolex y Cartier no son tan buenos. Por tanto, estos tres son las mejores opciones de comprar en bkk, si llegas por la mañana, comienza por MBK, (parada del Stadium Nacional del skytrain), por la noche por los puestecillos de Silom Road o en Suam Lum Night Bazaar; o si es fin de semana por Chatuchak market.

Otra de las compras que se pueden hacer son los trajes a medida, eliges la tela, te mandarán que vayas a hacerte una prueba a las pocas horas y después si quieres lo recoges en la misma tienda o te lo llevan al hotel. Por la zona cercana a PatPong tienes infinidad de sastrerías. Lo del precio varía según la tela. Por ejemplo, trajes de Hugo Boss por 70 cada uno. Muchos de ellos tienen esta oferta:

3 pantalones o 3 faldas

3 camisas o 3 blusas

3 corbatas seda o 3 fulares por unos 100

Ejemplo de sastrería: se le piden pantalones de verano e invierno a medida, zapatos, idem, camisas a mogollón, hechas en 24 horas, pero mejor si les das 48 incluso 72 horas, te lo harán a medida y muy bien confeccionado, regatea y primero diles que quieres una prueba de 1 sola camisa y si sale bien les pedirás una docena o más, las telas suelen ser inglesas de muy buena calidad, sin embargo las chaquetas no suelen hacerlas bien. Un buen sastre está en 10 Surawongse Rd. (frente a la tienda de Jim Thompson thai silk e-mail iftailor @ anet.th (International Tailor). Otra sastrería en Chiang Mai; La tienda se llama UNIVERSAL, está en la calle que baja de la entrada del hotel Empress.

Para artesanía y ropa de Custo mejor el mercado nocturno de Chiang Mai. La calidad de todo, en general, parece ser superior al Patpong de Bangkok. Pero siempre recomiendan que si encuentras algo que te guste, no esperes a comprártelo en otro sitio porque es muy probable que no lo encuentres.

CAMISETAS DE MARCA CUSTO (en los foros hablan mucho de ellas, ¿tan buenas son?) Hay una tienda en Silom Center (Otto) con tallas hasta una 44-46 de camisetas de custo/jordi labanda, lo que eran un poco más caras (700 baths con el descuento).

OTTO ORIGINAL. Está situada en una calle al lado del centro comercial.

SILOM VILLAGE (donde está la tienda de bolsos MAY 7, que también está muy bien). La calle se llama SOI PRAMOT 2, y el telefono es 01 44 33 43 5

Precios de Custo: Las de manga corta 6, manga larga 8,vestidos

12,regateando fuerte.

Un truquillo para regatear es que se coloque todo lo que has comprado:

ropa de marca, reloj, bolso, gafas de sol, monedero, anillos,... y le dices al tío que llevabas 10 días en Tai y lo que te ha costado (siempre dile un poco menos de lo que sea en realidad), asi lo mas probable es que no empiecen pidiéndote una barbaridad, sino que vayan directamente a un precio razonable. Por ultimo, En el aeropuerto te devuelven un 7% de lo que es el IVA tailandés, si lo compráis, pedid el papel amarillo en la tienda para presentarlo en el aeropuerto a la salida de Tailandia.

8. COMER

En Bangkok

- Thai Thai esta en el centro comercial que esta al lado de mcdonalds, solo tenéis que cruzar el mercado de Patpong y ya lo veis, es una franquicia tipo macdonalds pero de comida thai. Esta en el centro comercial Tower Silom en la segunda planta, se come por 100 baths con bebida incluida y esta muy bien.

-Dailicious restaurant 102 Narathiward-rachanakarin road, Sathorn, Bangkok, Thailand 10120. El precio esta sobre unos 300 baht que son 6 euritos.

- Por si tienes antojo de comida italiana, muy cerquita del hotel Holiday Inn, el restaurante MARIA, en donde comerás la mejor pizza que hayas podido probar jamás. Esta en la calle Silom al lado del Holiday Inn Silom. Bajando (si te pones de espaldas a la puerta) por la calle de la izquierda que va a dar a silom al llegar abajo giras a la derecha y ya estas en el restaurante.

-Restaurante "MangoTree" en la zona de Silom, frente al hotel Tawana Ramada.

Muy buen restaurante a un precio excepcional, unos 20 por pareja con excelente comida y servicio.

-Goodevening Restaurant 1120 Narathiward-rachanakarin Road, sathorn, Bangkok, Thailand 10120. ( este queda muy cerquita del hotel bayan tree ) y tiene pagina web: www.goodevenigbk.com )

BAYOKE SKY: Las mejores vistas de Bangkok, cena en la planta 78, tomar copas en las plantas 83 y 85, buffet libre para cenar por 10 (550baths) Open daily for lunch from 11.00 - 14.00 hours and dinner from 17.30 - 22.00 hours. . Además al lado hay un mercadillo que ponen por la noche mucho más barato que Patpong por que no es tan conocido.

Para coger el ascensor que te sube al mirador hay que comprar unos ticket pero tienen incluida una consumición en el.

En Bangkok, si quieres algo mejor, entre 20-30, pero alta cocina y excelente servicio, estas son las recomendaciones. En todos ellos es recomendable reservar y tened cuidado con el vino, que encarece mucho la cena

-Celadon, en el hotel The Sukhothai, alta cocina tailandesa,2pax aproximadamente entre 4000 y 5000 baths.

-The China House, en el hotel Oriental, para mí uno de los mejores restaurantes chinos del mundo y el mejor pato laqueado que he comido nunca (incluyendo China), 2pax 3000 baths.

-Basil, en el hotel Sheraton G. Sukhumvit, alta cocina tailandesa, sobre los 2000-3000 baths.

-Le Dalat Indochine, en la calle 14 sukhumvit soi 23, en un chalecito colonial, alta cocina vietnamita, impresionante, sobre los 1600-2000 baths.

-Biscotti, el el Hotel Four Seasons, uno de mis restaurantes italianos favoritos en todo el mundo, de mucho diseño y precios bastante razonables, 2pax 2000bt.

-Angelini, en el hotel Shangri La, con un enorme ventanal sobre el río, italiano, unos 2000.-3000 baths.

-The Lemongrass, , 5/1 Sukhumvit Soi 24, restaurante tailandés muy bueno y barato, muy popular, hay que reservar

- Spice Market, The Four Seasons, 155 Rajdamri rd, excelente tailandés con buenos precios

- Seafood Market, 89 Sukhumvit Soi 24, su nombre lo dice todo

-Baan Kanitha c/ soi 23, tiene una entrada con un jardín y es mitad al aire libre y mitad cubierto...todo de madera...muy chulo!!! Cena para dos 1000 bth, incluida la propina.

También hay una especie de viveros grandes donde se come buen pescado , las langostas ,los camarones y las sepias vivos, pero tienes que fijar el precio antes de decidirte por lo que te vas a comer sino estás perdido.

En Phuket, una joya, el restaurante "Number 6" en Patpong, sencillo y muy pequeño pero excelente comida, unos 10 por pareja.

En Chiang Mai todo el mundo coincide en el Riverside, por bueno y por barato.

Riverside: junto a río, música en directo. 9-11 CHAROENRAT ROAD 300 Baths por persona (6 euros)El Riverside es un puntazo: actúan grupos en vivo ¡Oasis, Coldplay, Cake!

Antique House: música, bonito.

Casa Antonio: enfrente del MacDonalds que está en la calle principal del mercadillo nocturno: tortilla de patata, jamón con tomate...

- (115/1-2 Loi Khroh Rd., T Chang Khlan. A.Muang. Chiang-Mai 50100.) calle principal del mercado noctuno de la ciudad hacia la mitad. No ir más tarde de las 7.30 porque se llena

Japonés: frente al Mc Donalds, junto Night Bazar (8/10).

FUJI All: japonés. En la calle principal del mercado nocturno, justo al principio de ésta, entrando por cruce más próximo al Chiang Mai Plaza. Muy recomendado.

-Para comer marisco: Cuando estas en el night market, bajas la calle en el sentido de la circulación, y antes de llegar al semáforo donde se acaba el mercado, coges la última (creo que es la ultima calle antes del semáforo) calle a mano izquierda, que desemboca en una plaza (a unos 20 metros) ya mano derecha esta el restaurante y en frente hacen masajes de pie al aire libre (va muy bien después de atiborrarse).

9. HOTELES

Para dormir barato, la mejor opción es Khao San Road. Hay mucha variedad de sitios para quedarse y es una zona con mucha marcha por la noche. Quizás lo único que no hay son hoteles de alta gama, pero hay algunas guesthouses y hotelillos que están bastante bien y te ahorrarás mucho dinero.

En Bangkok el mejor hotel es el Peninsula: bangkok.peninsula.com/, está en el río, con unas vistas excelentes y un servicio de transporte permanente en sus barcos hasta la estación del Sky Train (para mi gusto la mejor manera de moverse por Bangkok, así como el metro).

El Hotel Oriental es un clásico, magnífico, pero me gusta más el Peninsula: www.mandarinoriental.com/bangkok/ . En cuanto a playas es más tranquila y bonita la zona de Krabi, Koh Chang también es muy bonito, pero se recomienda profilaxis contra la malaria. Cerca de la zona de Phuket está Kao Lak y Phang-Nga, con algunas de las playas más bonitas del país, tienes allí dos resorts muy buenos y muy tranquilos: el Saronjin

En algunos hoteles te dejan botellas de agua mineral en la habitación y luego te las cobran a 180baths. En otros hoteles te las dan gratis. Por eso que ante la duda preguntar en recepción para que no se pasen de listos.

9.-MASAJES

Casas de masajes hay por todas partes. En algunos sitios se puede negociar el precio un poco. En otros no. Los hay en los mercados y en las calles, lo mejor es darse uno todos los días, como poco. Los hay de piernas, de cuerpo completo y los complementan con pedicuras y cosas así.

Una hora son unos 200 bath y dos horas suele ser el doble. Los salones más profesionales son los siguientes:

Body Tune : Sukhumvit soi 24. (masajes serios). 2h=10 En estos masajes la propina típica es de 1 a 2 euros.

Elysium: Sukhumvit soi 23. Tlf: 23 02 664 0582. (Abierto de 10 a 10). 2h=10. En estos masajes la propina típica es de 1 a 2 euros.

Kenko Massage: 2h. 20m.=14.

Escuela Tradicional de Masajes: junto al Wat Pho (Aprendices ¡!).

Masajista:"cheep!!", "cha cha noi"!! = me duele!,despacito!

"aloa mae, mae", o algo parecido, debes decir que no. Te estás diciendo que si quieres seguir...hasta el final !ojo!. Dejar siempre propina de 50 Baht.

10.- TELEFONO E INTERNET

Para llamar a casa usar las Cabinas amarillas en las que pone INTERNATIONAL PHONE. Solo funcionan con tarjeta que se pueden conseguir en establecimientos donde están estas cabinas, que normalmente son pequeños súper, las hay de varios precios pero se recomienda usar las de 300 bahts(6 euros)durara mas o menos unos 15 minutos, tiempo suficiente para hacer dos llamadas.

Tenéis que descolgar el teléfono introducir la tarjeta y marcar.....00134 mas vuestro numero particular si llamáis a un fijo. No dicen nada de llamar a un móvil.

Lo más barato cómodo es tener una cuenta de skype y llamar desde los cibercafés. Hay muchos puntos para conectarse a internet en bares, hoteles, aeropuertos... Muchos hoteles ofrecen el servicio de internet gratis.

Cuando le deis un regalo a un tailandés, dadlo con las dos manos, no con una sola. Si se lo dais a un niño hacerlo así: ofrecerle el regalo y decirle "sawati con"="da las gracias primero" y veréis como el niño junta las manos y os hace una reverencia.

12. NOTAS Y CONSEJOS

1.- Si viajas con Thai, Un truco, llamar aprox 1 semana antes a la Thai (917820521 ) y preguntar a partir de que día se pueden reservar los asientos que quieras por teléfono. Te dirán a partir de qué día y pueden hacerlo, entonces solicitar los asientos de las salidas de emergencia, que hay pocos en todo el avión.

2.- Llevarse una botella de algo (wisky, ron, etc.) que allí es caro. Menos el Ron Tailandés, pero que no es muy bueno.

3.- De marcha: Por ahí dicen que en los garitos te pides una botella de Black Label por 900 baths ya bailar. Y la tienes ahí para ir bebiéndotela mientras estÁs en el garito.

6.- El mejor Hotel en BKK es el Peninsula, está considerado entre los mejores hoteles del sudeste asiático y aunque los otros son muy buenos hoteles, me quedo con el Peninsula (el Banyan Tree son todo suites, pero las zonas comunes son

muy superiores en el Peninsula).

7.- Cuidado al comer fruta verdura fresca, si esta mal puede matarte para todo el viaje.

8.- Comportamiento para visitar los templos: Para entrar debe sacarse los zapatos y, como no se puede estar de pie, es obligatorio sentarse en el piso de alfombra roja. Esté preparado para cubrirse las piernas y los brazos para entrar a los templos.

Sobre todo en el templo del buda de Esmeralda, donde las reglas son muy estrictas. Es aconsejable llevar medias para no estar totalmente descalzos, ya que no se garantiza que el piso esté limpio. No se puede entrar con pantalones muy cortos o remeras demasiado escotadas. Dentro del templo, hay que cruzarse de piernas en adoración a Buda, que lleva la misma postura.
